Central District (Quchan County)

The Central District of Quchan County (Persian: بخش مرکزی شهرستان قوچان) is in Razavi Khorasan province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Quchan.

At the National Census in 2006, its population was 169,575 in 42,844 households.[3] The following census in 2011 counted 171,421 people in 48,588 households.[4] At the latest census in 2016, the district had 166,868 inhabitants in 50,260 households.[2]

After the census, two rural districts of the Central District were separated from the district.[5] Dughayi Rural District was elevated to the status of Abkuh District, containing the newly formed Bahar Rural District.[6] Quchan Atiq Rural District became Quchan Atiq District and shares the district with the newly established Yazdan Rural District.[7] The villages of Almajeq, Mezerj, and Shahr-e Kohneh were raised to the status of cities.[8][9]
