- Yitzhak Rabin presented his cabinet for a Knesset "Vote of Confidence". The Seventeenth government of Israel was approved that day and the members were sworn in.[4]
- General Carlos Briceño Zevallos assumed operational command of all UNTSO Observers detailed to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force.

- June 1974 Great Plains tornado outbreak: An outbreak of 36 tornadoes, at least 19 of them significant or intense, became the second-deadliest June tornado event in Oklahoma history, with 16 deaths reported in the state.[11]
- Jon Pertwee made his last appearance as Doctor Who in the final episode of "Planet of the Spiders" and was replaced by Tom Baker.[12]

- Red Lion Square disorders and death of Kevin Gately: The British National Front marched through London's West End, while the London Area Council for Liberation conducted a counter-demonstration. A student was killed during the demonstrations, the first demonstrator to be killed in Britain for 55 years, leading to a public enquiry conducted by Lord Scarman.

- The Milwaukee Road ended operation of its electric locomotives in Montana and Idaho. Trains over the Rocky Mountains were now solely powered by diesel.

- Pravda reported that Yekaterina Furtseva, the most influential woman in Soviet politics, had failed to be re-elected to the Supreme Soviet, shortly after being disciplined by the Party for extravagance and fined 40,000 rubles.[20] Furtseva would die four months later.

- In response to protests by the imperial regime, a new Coordinating Committee of the Armed Forces (which became the Derg) seized the radio station in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and began to arrest other aristocrats, high officials, and generals suspected of being behind the reactionary movement.
- Real Madrid C.F. defeated FC Barcelona in the final of Spain's Copa del Generalísimo football competition, held at the Vicente Calderón Stadium, Madrid.[28]
