Shahr-e Kohneh, Quchan

Shahr-e Kohneh (Persian: شهر كهنه, also Romanized as Khabūshān and Shahr Kohneh)[3] is a city in, and the capital of, Quchan Atiq District of Quchan County, Razavi Khorasan province, Iran.[4]

At the 2006 census, its population was 3,683 in 930 households, when it was in Quchan Atiq Rural District of the Central District.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 3,486 people in 980 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 3,320 people in 1,062 households. It was the largest village of its rural district.[2]

After the census, two rural districts of the Central District were separated from the district.[7] Quchan Atiq Rural District became Quchan Atiq District and shares the district with the newly established Yazdan Rural District.[4] The villages of Almajeq, Mezerj, and Shahr-e Kohneh have been raised to the status of cities.[8][9]
