Background
Netiv HaAsara, a moshav founded in 1982, is home to a population of 900. Following the Israeli disengagement from Gaza in 2005, Netiv HaAsara became the closest Israeli community to the Gaza Strip, situated merely 400 meters from the edge of the Palestinian town of Beit Lahia. The moshav endured ongoing artillery attacks, including Qassam rockets, Katyusha rockets, and mortar shelling. In 2007, the Popular Resistance Committees attempted infiltration, resulting in the death of two assailants at the hands of the IDF. Netiv HaAsara witnessed civilian casualties over the years, with incidents such as the Qassam rocket-related death of Dana Galkowicz in 2005, the loss of a nine-year-old school girl in 2007, and the fatal attack on a Thai worker in 2010.
Attack
On the morning of 7 October, Simchat Torah, Hamas terrorists infiltrated the Netiv HaAsara moshav near northern Gaza Strip, using paragliders. They went from house to house, killing 20+ people and injuring many more. Some victims were from the same family, while others were members of the village's rapid response team. At some point electricity in the village went out, leaving people trapped in safe rooms without power.[3][4]
