  1. Armenian emphasis mark, called շեշտ (šešt) in Armenian. Is put over the stressed vowel:
    1. in vocative words
      Վահա՛գ, դու աշխարհի ամենասեքսուալ հայն ես:
      Vahág, du ašxarhi amenasekʿsual hayn es:
      Vahag, you’re the sexiest Armenian in the world.
      Ի՞նչ եք անում, տիկի՛ն:
      I?nčʿ ekʿ anum, tikín:
      What are you doing, ma'am?
    2. in imperative verbs
      Խաղա՛ հետս:
      Xałá hets:
      Play with me!
      Ի՞նչ ես տանը նստել: Գնա՛, մի բան արա՛:
      I?nčʿ es tanə nstel: Gná, mi ban ará:
      Why are you sitting here? Go, do something!
      Մի՛ կեր:
      Mí ker:
      Don’t eat!
    3. in vocative or onomatopoeic interjections
      — Տո՛, եկե՜ք, եկե՜ք, կացին ախպերը կատաղել է, ոտս կծեց:
      — Tó, eke!kʿ, eke!kʿ, kacʿin axperə katałel ē, ots kcecʿ:

      Ես չեմ ուզում ուտել ո՛չ խնձորը, ո՛չ տանձը:
      Es čʿem uzum utel óčʿ xnjorə, óčʿ tanjə:
      I want to eat neither the apple nor the pear.
    5. in words carrying logical emphasis, that is, emphasis required by the sense of the passage
      Օ՛, գարնա՜ն ամիս, ապրելո՛ւ ապրիլ…
      Ṓ, garna!n amis, aprelú april…
