Usage notes
In contrast with the generic term թռչուն (tʿṙčʿun, “bird, any living thing which flies”), հաւ (haw) has a more complex, although smaller, semantic range which primarily includes birds which are useful to men.

From Proto-Indo-European *p(e)h₂w- (“end, edge”). Cognate with Ancient Greek παύω (paúō, “to stop”), παῦσις (paûsis, “pause”). Probably related to ագի (agi).
