Etymology

Wasei kango (和製漢語), orthographically borrowed from Japanese 天 (てん)主 (しゅ) (tenshu, “God”), which was in turn a semantic readaptation of Chinese 天主 (Tiānzhǔ, “heavenly emperor; heavenly God”).[1]
