Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *ḱlowsos, from *ḱlew- (“to hear”). Cognate with Ancient Greek κλέος (kléos, “rumor; fame”), Sanskrit श्रवस् (śrávas, “fame, honor”) and Old Irish clú (“fame, rumor”).
From the same Proto-Indo-Euroepan root also *slava (“glory, fame”), *slovo (“glory, fame”) and *slyti (“have a reputation”).
