French
Etymology 1
From Middle French cuire, cuyre, from Old French cuire, from Vulgar Latin *cocere, from Latin coquere, present active infinitive of coquō, from Proto-Italic *kʷekʷō, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *pekʷ- (“to cook, become ripe”).
Verb
cuire
- (intransitive) to cook
- Le repas cuit. ― The meal is cooking.
- Je fais cuire le repas. ― I'm cooking the meal. / I cook the meal.
Usage notes
