From Old Spanish sozobrar, borrowed from Old Catalan sotsobrar, from sotsobre < sots + sobre, or from a Vulgar Latin *subsuperāre (“turn upside down”), from sub (“under”) + super (“over”)[1]. Compare also French sombrer.
