Academic Counselor
Watch Alece Plasencia, Academic Counselor at the Girls Academic Leadership Academy (GALA) in Los Angeles, share how a favorite part of her job is watching young 9th graders come into school not knowing what to expect, and then four years later watch them march across the stage as confidant young adults with scholarships to top schools in their hands on a path to the career of their dreams. She wants students to know that taking classes at community colleges can be a good option to learn more about subjects they are interested in, and that in many instances, courses can be taken for free. Her advice is for students to follow their inner voice about what they are passionate about and pursue those subjects.
