For whatever reason, you may find that it necessary, one day, to bypass the internet filter installed on a computer. It's possible to do this with a handy collection of programs called the Tor Browser Bundle. Before proceeding, you will want to find out whether you're breaking any rules by bypassing the internet filter.
Steps
-
1Firstly, if you do not already have it, install a web browser onto your computer. We chose Firefox, but any browser will do.
-
2Navigate to the Tor Project website where you'll need to download and extract the Tor Browser Bundle onto your computer. Make sure to get the version which corresponds to the operating system of the computer where you'll use it (e.g., if your school computers run Windows, you get that version, or if you'll use it at a library that runs Linux, get that version). Follow the Tor website for further details.Advertisement
-
3If the version you downloaded works on your own computer (see previous step), fire up your Tor Bundle and make sure that it tells you that your browser is connected via the Tor network. You can always re-check this by going to about:tor or check.torproject.org.
-
4Now whip out your USB-stick, and insert it into your computer. Then, copy (right-click and select copy) the Tor Browser folder (which should be either on your desktop or wherever else you saved it in step 2) and paste (right-click and select paste) it into your USB-stick.
-
5Eject your USB stick, and take it to your desired location (school, library, internet café, etc.).
-
6Plug in the drive, and open it up. Double-click the "Start Tor Browser"-icon, and wait for the Tor Browser to start.
-
7If the browser starts as normal and displays the same text as it did in step 3, you're connected through Tor and ready to browse any website you need.

Community Q&A
-
QuestionHow can I use Tor to access blocked sites on my computer?Community AnswerTor runs on firefox so if you have firefox, you can use Tor. If installing firefox doesn't work, try installing Tor onto the flash drive. You can then run Tor off of the flashdrive.
-
QuestionCan Tor bypass things like Circle by Disney?Community AnswerYes, about 98% of the time it can. If it doesn't work for you, when launching the Tor browser, click the button labeled "Tor Network Settings" and then set up a connection via a Tor bridge relay. This method works basically everywhere and can even work in China if you use the correct type of bridge.
-
QuestionDo I need to use a flash drive to bypass an Internet filter?ChemGeniusCommunity AnswerIn most cases yes, however, if your school, work, etc. doesn't have the Tor website blocked and you are able to install programs on that computer, then you could just do steps 1-5 without a flash drive.
