Eggs are a delicious staple to many recipes, and with all that shell cracking, a stray egg is bound to fall to the floor at some point or another. Cleaning up raw egg is always a slippery, gooey experience, but it doesn't have to be with the help of some salt. When cracking your eggs gets a little out of hand, a couple easy steps using household items will make cleaning up the slimy spill a whole lot easier.

Steps

  1. 1
Cover the spilled egg with salt. Use enough salt to cover the entire area of the spilled egg (about a handful of salt). The salt provides a surface for the gooey egg to stick to, and makes gathering the egg a lot easier.[1]
    • Any kind of salt works just fine, so you can use iodized table salt, or kosher salt.
    • Animals could be attracted to the raw egg on the floor, so if you have any pets, you probably want to keep them away from the spill.
  2. 2
Leave the egg to absorb the salt. Let the salt sit for about 10-15 minutes.[2] This ensures that the salt will congeal the majority of the gooey egg, making it easier to collect.
    • A piece of bread can also absorb the spilled egg if you don’t happen to have any salt around.

  3. 3
Scoop up the raw egg and throw it out. Use a paper towel or a spatula to place the salt-covered egg on a newspaper. A newspaper is a good alternative for clean-up rather than using a dustpan, because a newspaper can be thrown out along with the egg.
  4. 4
Sanitize the area of the spill. Use a disinfectant to clean any surface or area that made contact with the raw egg.[3]

Clean it up with a towel. If there is a stain, rub a slice of lemon on the area of the floor that you dropped it.
