You don't want to draw for an art show. You don't care wither or not your art becomes the greatest display of all kind. You want to make yourself happy doing what you love and if others like what they see than it doesn't matter that much, it's just kind of a bonus. This is how to draw for yourself.

Steps

  1. 1
Keep a notebook, a piece of computer paper, or even a spare scrap of paper on you so you can draw whenever you want to. You can sketch ideas to finish later as full drawings, or just doodle.
  2. 2
Don't care. Realize that what you draw, what you create, is for you. If you want to draw stick figures, draw stick figures. If you want to draw a kitten, draw a kitten. If you want to fiddle with shapes and colors, do that. Your imagination is unlimited so don't stifle yourself just because what you are putting on a sheet isn't the "in" thing or isn't what people expect.

  3. 3
Reserve judgment on your own work, at least until after it is done. Turn off your inner critic while you draw, or at least send him or her on a vacation for a while. Don't reject something before you even begin it.
  4. 4
Remember that there are no right or wrong ways to draw. If your subject looks exactly as you intend, fine. If not, it is simply your interpretation of the subject.
