How to Share an Online Video in a Reddit Post

If you want to share an online video in a Reddit post and have the video appear in the post's body, you'll need to create a link post. Unlike a traditional text post, a link post places a video player into the body of the post rather than just the video's address. If the video you want to share is on your computer, phone, or tablet, you can embed it in a Reddit post by creating a video post. Open the Reddit mobile app. It's the orange-and-white robot head icon on your home screen or in your app list.
- This method will work with most popular streaming video sites, including YouTube.

Go to the subreddit you want to post to. You can search for a subreddit using the search bar at the top, or tap the second icon in the bottom icon row (two squares, a circle, and a magnifying glass) to select one from your Favorites or My Communities list.

Tap + at the bottom-center. A list of post types will expand.

Tap LINK. It's the first option on the menu. This creates a new post.

Enter a post title. You'll want to give the post a name that reflects the contents of the video.

Paste the URL of the video into the typing area. You'll see http:// in the field already—tap that to type or paste the URL of your video.
- To paste the URL, tap and hold the area and select Paste.
- If you want to mark the video as NSFW (not safe for work) or as a Spoiler, tap the three dots below the post and select that option.

Tap POST. It's at the top-right corner. This shares your video as a link—this means that the actual video is embedded in the body of the post.

Go to https://www.reddit.com in a web browser. If you're not already signed in, go ahead and do that now.
- This method will work with most popular streaming video sites, including YouTube.

Go to the subreddit on which you want to post. You can search for a subreddit using the Search bar at the top of the page, or click the drop-down menu in the upper-left corner to select one from your favorites or communities list.

Click the Create Post button. It's the wide oval button in the right panel.

Click the Link tab. The tabs run along the top of new post just above the "Title" field. Creating a new post starts a Text post by default, but you'll need to switch to Link so you can embed your video in the post body.

Enter a post title. You'll want to give the post a name that reflects the contents of the video.

Paste the URL of the video into the typing area. You can paste a copied URL by right-clicking the "URL" field and selecting "Paste."
- If necessary, click SPOILER if you are posting a spoiler video, or NSFW if the video isn't safe for people to view at work.

Click Post. This shares your post with the video embedded in its body.

Uploading a Video to Reddit on Mobile

Open the Reddit mobile app. It's the orange-and-white robot head icon on your home screen or in your app list. If you want to embed a video in your post that's saved to your phone or tablet, you can create a video post in the mobile app.

Trim the video (optional) and tap Choose. If you don't want to post the whole video, you can drag the sliders on either end of the bar at the top to select the part you want to keep.
- After tapping Choose, you can also mark the video as NSFW (not safe for work) or as a Spoiler if needed. Tap the three dots below the post and select an option to do so.

Tap POST. It's at the top-right corner. This shares your video as to a new post. The video will actually be embedded in the body of the post.
