You first need to get black roses, which you get with two red roses. When you have a black rose, you need to wait for it to wilt (this cannot be done with the Beautiful Town Ordinance). The roses turn a brown color when they have wilted. You must water the wilted roses with a golden watering can and wait or skip ahead a day.

This takes a lot of waiting, so remain patient. You may need to skip ahead days in the game if you want the time to pass quicker.

You can sometimes get "clones" of two flowers, you cannot breed those flowers. To ensure the flower is not a "clone" buy sapling bags, or find flowers which are growing with none of its type nearby (for example, a white pansy that is not near any other pansies).
