If your Kenmore washer won't spin after filling up the basket with water and agitating your clothing, then your lid switch may be bad. Maybe, it's something else. Either way, you need to get that control panel up off of the washer. Here is how.
- Shots are of a Sears Kenmore Model 110.21884001
Steps
-
1Be sure you have the replacement part that you need to remove the top for.
-
2Be sure to unplug the washer and disconnect the water hoses. (Make sure they are turned off first). This will allow you to move the washer further away from the wall. You will probably want to clean out behind your washer when you move it. It can get pretty bad back there between repairs and moving.
- Have a bucket for the hose to drain in to.

3Look at the back of the washer for the screws that you will need to remove.
-
4Remove the screws that connect the assembly to the washer.
-
5Remove the end caps of the control panel. This will make it so you can remove the two screws that hold it to the washer's body.
- Pry the end caps up to get them to be released from the control panel.
-
6Remove the two screws that you will see.
-
7Carefully, lift the control panel away from the body of the washer. It will still be connected, so be sure it doesn't get away from you and break something.
-
8Lay the panel carefully back.
-
9Take this opportunity to clean the area. For one, you will be working in the area and don't want to get dirty, and second, you won't often be able to clean these areas.
-
10Remove the spring clip if you need to get in further for your repair.
-
11Make your repairs.
-
12Replace the cover.

QuestionI need to get to the pump, how do I remove the cabinet?Community AnswerDon't. Just tip the washer onto its front or back. The pump is on the bottom and very easy to replace. Just detach the hoses and screws to pop it right out and drop on a new pump.
