Having a place to store your curling iron makes it easy for you to use it when you need to and keep the cord from getting tangled. If your curling iron is hot, you can store it in or on a heat-safe material so you won’t risk burning yourself or any surfaces. Once it’s cooled, you can keep your curling iron in a storage container under your sink, or use a hanging storage option.

Method 1 of 2:

Putting Away a Hot Curling Iron

  1. 1
Place heat-safe canisters inside your bathroom drawers. First, use measuring tape to measure the length, width, and height of your bathroom drawer. Then, purchase a heat-safe canister that will fit inside your bathroom drawer.[1] To store your curling iron while it’s still hot, simply pull out the drawer and place the curling iron wand down into the canister.
    • If the drawer is tall, you may be able to close it. In most cases, you’ll need to keep the drawer open while the curling iron cools inside the canister.
    • You can also use zip ties to attach a perforated heat-safe canister to a rolling storage shelf or any round metal legs, poles, or racks you have in your bathroom.[2]
  2. 2
Make a heat-safe wall storage unit with steel flashing and a pipe clamp. First, cut a wooden board about 5 inches (13 cm) in width and length and purchase a piece of steel flashing to fit it. Attach the flashing to the wooden board with a hammer and nails. Then, place a 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) pipe clamp across the middle of the flashing. Use a screw driver and screws to secure the pipe clamp in place.[3]
    • Hang the wooden board with the flashing and pipe clamp on your bathroom wall with adhesive strips or a hammer and nails.
    • After using your curling iron, you can simply stick the barrel into the gap between the pipe clamp and flashing to store it.
    • If you can’t find a piece of steel flashing to fit the piece of wood, you can cut it down to size with a utility knife or sharp pair of scissors.

  3. 3
Lay your hot curling iron across a rolling pin or wine rack. Attach the wall rolling pin rack or metal wine rack to your bathroom wall. You can then lay your curling iron across the hooks on the rack to store it while it’s still hot, or once it’s cooled.[4]
    • Rolling pin racks and wine racks are very similar in shape and size and generally work well because the hooks extend out from the wall, so your hot curling iron won’t touch the wall.
    • You can also attach 2 metal hooks to your wall and lay the curling iron across the hooks. Just make sure that the hooks extend out far enough so that the hot barrel doesn’t touch the wall.
  4. 4
Make a hanging storage container out of a metal pail. First, attach a hook to your wall. Then, cut a piece of string or twine about 10 inches (25 cm) long. Tie the ends of the string or twine to the holes on either side of the metal pail where the handle attaches to the pail. Then, hang the string on the hook attached to the wall.[5]
    • You can then store your curling iron in the pail by sticking the barrel inside after you’re done using it.
    • Metal pails can tolerate a high level of heat, making them a good option for storing your hot curling iron.
    • You can attach several pails together to make a multi-pail organizer for all your hair tools.
  5. 5
Rest your hot curling iron on a heat-resistant silicon mat. For a quick and easy way to safely store your curling iron while it cools, you can simply lay it on a heat-resistant mat. You can keep the mat on top of your bathroom counter, or place it in a drawer if you want the curling iron put away and out of sight while it cools.[6]
    • Simple heat-resistant mats are widely available online and in most home improvement stores. If you want a more attractive pattern, look for a heat-resistant mat designed specifically for hair tools at a beauty supply retailer.
    • You can also store your hot curling iron on a large silicon pot holder, or a decorative heat-safe tray.[7]
  6. 6
Get a curling iron cover sleeve to store your hot iron on the go. If you need to safely store your curling iron while you’re on-the-go, you can purchase a curling iron cover sleeve to cover the hot barrel. Curling iron sleeves are made of durable, heat-resistant materials and fit snuggly over the barrel of your curling iron, making it easy for you to use your iron and then safely pack it away as needed.[8]

Using Storage Solutions for a Cooled Curling Iron

  1. 1
Install a hair tools storage bracket on your bathroom cabinet or wall. If you have several hair tools you want to store along with your curling iron, getting a hair tools storage bracket may be a good option. These brackets are designed with several compartments that hold a variety of hair tools, including your curling iron, hairbrush, and hair dryer.[10]
    • Hair tools storage brackets are widely available online and at beauty supply retailers.
    • While some are made to withstand heat, in most cases, you’ll need to let your curling iron cool before storing it away.
    • You can attach most hair tools brackets inside your cabinet door or on your bathroom wall.
    • Never wrap the cord around the curling iron while storing it. If you do this, the wires inside the cord will start to break down.[11]
  2. 2
Attach a PVC pipe to your bathroom cabinet door. First, purchase a 5 inches (13 cm) piece of PVC pipe with an opening that is slightly larger than the barrel of your curling iron. Then, attach the PVC pipe to the inside of your cabinet door with an adhesive Velcro strip or strong hanging adhesive strips, such as Command strips.[12]
    • Make sure that the pipe opening is large enough to fit the barrel of your curling iron, but not so wide that the handle and clip fall through. For example, if you have a 1 inch (2.5 cm) barrel curling iron, look for a 1.25 inches (3.2 cm) or 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) PVC pipe.
    • You can also get a large PVC pipe connector that can store both your hairdryer and curling iron.
    • Use spray paint to coat the pipe in a decorative color and place it on your bathroom counter for easy access.[13]
    • PVC pipes are available online and at most hardware stores and generally cost less than $5 USD.
  3. 3
Use a magazine holder to store your curling iron under your sink. For an easy, inexpensive way to store your cooled curling iron, place a magazine holder under your bathroom sink or on a storage shelf. Magazine holders are generally thin and tall, making them a great option for holding your curling iron and other hair tools as well.[14]
    • You can also mount the magazine holder to your bathroom wall or inside your bathroom cabinet using strong hanging adhesive strips or a hammer and nails.[15]
    • Metal magazine holders may work for storing hot curling irons as well.
  4. 4
Hang your curling iron by its cord on a hook. If you use your curling iron frequently, hanging it on a hook attached to your bathroom wall may be a good option for you. While it might not look as uncluttered as it would if you stored it out of sight, storing your curling iron on a hook makes it quick and easy to access and use.[16]
  5. 5
Store your curling iron in an over-the-door shoe organizer. If you have a lot of hair tools and bathroom supplies to store, try hanging a plastic or fabric shoe organizer over your bathroom door. This will give you several compartments for storing various items, including your curling iron.[17]
