Playing around with brighter colors can be a little tricky, especially when it comes to outfit planning. Don’t let your yellow purses, clutches, and other bags collect dust around your home—instead, play around with what’s already in your closet and make a fashionable new outfit!

Method 1
Method 1 of 2:

Making Casual Outfits

  1. 1
Pair a bright yellow purse with neutral clothes and bright accessories. Slip on a short-sleeved, neutral-toned tee, along with neutral-toned pants. Wear a brightly colored jacket overtop, along with brightly colored shoes. As a finishing touch, pick out your favorite, bright yellow handbag to complete the outfit.[1]
    • For instance, you can wear a white tee with white jeans, then layer on a bright pink jacket. Slip into some pink sandals and play around with some accessories, like sunglasses or dangling earrings.
  2. 2
Complement a multi-colored sweater and bright pants with a yellow bag. Search through your close for a bright, fun sweater that has a lot of colors going on. Pair your sweater with some brightly colored leather pants or jeans, then complete the outfit with a fun pair of shoes. Grab your yellow bag before heading out as a fun, colorful accent to the rest of your ensemble.[2]
    • For example, you can wear a green, yellow, blue, and red sweater with a pair of red pants and shoes, then use your yellow bag as an accent.

  3. 3
Play around with a bright color palette that your yellow bag blends well with. Look for comfortable clothes in your wardrobe, like a sweater, skirt, and cardigan. Look for brightly colored items that mesh well together, like pinks, greens, and yellows. Accent your outfit with a yellow purse, and you’ll be ready to go![3]
    • For instance, slip on a forest green sweater and pair it with a flow, bright yellow skirt. Wear a dark pink cardigan over top, then complete the outfit with a yellow bag and a pair of long, brown boots.
  4. 4
Brighten up a blouse and jean skirt with a bright yellow purse. Slip into a comfortable, neutral-toned blouse or dress shirt to serve as the base of your outfit. Slide into a comfortable jean skirt, then put on a pair of sneakers or tennis shoes. Grab your yellow bag, and you’ll be ready to go out and about.
    • For example, you can pair a white blouse with a dark blue jean skirt, then finish off the outfit with a pair of white tennis shoes. Bring a bright yellow purse with you as a fun burst of color.
    • Over-the-shoulder bags work really well with this kind of outfit.

Dressing for Fancier Occasions

  1. 1
Match a yellow handbag with a yellow sweater and patterned skirt. Slip into a loose, comfortable sweater or turtleneck that’s some shade of yellow. Look through your closet for a dark, breezy skirt that complements the brightness of your shirt, then slide into your favorite pair of boots. Grab a yellow handbag to tie the whole outfit together.[4]
    • For instance, you can wear a textured, pastel yellow sweater and pair it with a black, floral-patterned skirt. Finish off the outfit with a pair of black boots and a yellow handbag of your choice.
    • Your bag doesn’t have to exactly match the shade of your top. If your shirt and accessory are slightly different colors, it can add a nice depth to your outfit.
  2. 2
Create an office-ready look with neutral clothes and a dark yellow bag. Slip into a neutral-toned or neutral-patterned top, then put on a pair of neutral-toned pants or slacks. Wear some dress shoes as a fancy final touch and grab your yellow bag so you’re ready to go.[5]
    • For example, wear a black and white long-sleeved with a pair of khaki pants and some simple black dress shoes. Slip on a beige coat overtop as a finishing touch, along with your favorite yellow bag.
  3. 3
Plan out a monochromatic ensemble with a yellow bag as an accent. Pick out a nice top and pair of pants that have a really similar color scheme. Slip into a nice pair of fancy shoes that match your top and pants, then grab a bright yellow bag as an accent.[6]
    • For instance, you can pair a dark blue dress shirt or blouse with some dark blue patterned pants, along with some dark blue sandals or other nice shoes. As a finishing touch, grab a bright, neon yellow purse to add a lot of contrast to your outfit.
    • Over-the-shoulder handbags work well with this kind of outfit.
    • Don’t be afraid to play around with bold yellow colors! Your outfit ultimately comes down to you and your comfort level.
  4. 4
Pair your yellow bag with a yellow-patterned dress. Search in your wardrobe for a comfy, breezy dress to wear during a day or night out. Grab a yellow purse or handbag to complement the outfit, then slip into a comfortable pair of shoes before you head out.[7]
    • For example, slip into a yellow, paisley-patterned dress that goes down to your lower calves. Grab a yellow purse to complement your outfit, then slip into some flat sandals to finish the outfit.
    • This dress doesn’t have to be prom-level—above all, it should be something comfortable that’s easy to move around in.
  5. 5
Complement a soft skirt and blouse with a pastel yellow bag. Search through your closet for a comfortable blouse and skirt that fall under the same color palette. Slip into a nice pair of shoes as a finishing touch for your outfit, then grab your favorite yellow purse when you’re ready to go.
    • For instance, pair a light pink blouse with a dark pink, knee-length skirt. Finish off the outfit with pastel yellow pumps and a pastel yellow purse.
  6. 6
Jazz up a long dress with a golden clutch. Get ready for a date night or other formal event by getting dressed in a long evening dress. Slip into a pair of fancy shoes or sandals, then grab a gold clutch as a flashy finishing touch.
    • For example, slip into a long, sleeveless, tropical blue dress and contrast it with a golden clutch.

Prada and Mulberry are great options. They tend to make very durable and stylish bags. Burberry bags are always a good choice.

I think they're fun. That's what good about them, they're kind of playful but also practical. You can carry a lot of stuff in a good bucket bag. They may not be the most popular option out there today, but don't worry about that. You can definitely put some great outfits together with a good bucket bag.
