|

Etymology
Uncertain. Has been linked to uncial Latin G or Runic α (/j/) and even from a cursive Ancient Greek Ξ (X, βxiβ). SnΓ¦dal (2015; see references) favours the Latin origin, possibly invented after Wulfila.
