Proto-Slavic

Etymology

Likely related to *grěti (to heat, to warm). Trubachev suggests that *grěxъ is a proto-Slavic innovation, derived in a similar way like *směxъ < *smьjati and *spěxъ < *spěti. If true, then the meaning "sin" is most certainly figurative.

Noun
