Proto-Slavic
Etymology
Likely related to *grěti (“to heat, to warm”). Trubachev suggests that *grěxъ is a proto-Slavic innovation, derived in a similar way like *směxъ < *smьjati and *spěxъ < *spěti. If true, then the meaning "sin" is most certainly figurative.
