(Nom) Du moyen anglais linet ; de l’ancien français linette, diminutif de lin.

(Verbe) Du nom de la fonction Unix lint, écrite en 1979, qui analysait les programmes écrits en langage C, lui-même nommé d’après les excédents de fibres qui se trouvent autour de la laine ou du coton.
