Hospital Casefinding and Passive Follow-Up

Casefinding is the process of identifying all cases of a disease eligible to be included in the registry database for a defined population, such as patients of a hospital or residents of a state. It is also called case ascertainment.

Implementing this use case will have a major positive impact on the cancer registrar. Completed reports from all areas of the healthcare facility will be transmitted electronically to the cancer registry (CR) software system on a routine (usually nightly) basis. The CR software can identify reports that need registrar review and update certain follow-up information automatically. This implementation should reduce the amount of time spent retrieving and reviewing medical reports to identify and updates cancer cases.

The use case is the business process of a hospital cancer registry and its interaction with internal actors (those who perform the process) and external actors (recipients of the process).
