Love Harry Potter beyond words? You can decorate your room to look like a Hogwarts dormitory so work that creative magic! All you have to do is read the article below!

Steps

  1. 1
Clean your entire bedroom and move everything into a hallway temporarily. Make sure that this is okay with your parents.
  2. 2
Decorate your bed to make it look like it's four-posted by attaching spray-painted PVC pipe to the ends of the bed and around it.

  3. 3
Get a trunk to put all your Hogwarts stuff into. An alternative is to get a large cardboard box, paint it burgundy, put your name on it and put your Hogwarts costume, books and equipment in it.
  4. 4
Read the books to get a really inside view of the dorms.
  5. 5
    Put up posters.
  6. 6
    Display your Harry Potter things.
  7. 7
Sew some curtains and bed sheets in your house color.
  8. 8
Take the Harry Potter Sorting Hat quiz to find out what house you would be in. Use this to help you decorate your room with posters coordinating to that house.
  9. 9
Move your things back in but put them in boxes labeled things like "Animals To Transfigure" and "Potion Ingredients".
  10. 10
On your door put the thing that would allow you to enter the correct dormitory. (For example, Gryffindor, Fat Lady portrait)
  11. 11
    Enjoy your dormitory!
  12. 12
Consider buying a replica of an owl, cat, or toad. While not necessary, many Hogwarts students have pets.
    • A large, decorative clock can really help lean into the theme of your room. It’s also just a really cool design element.
  13. 13
Have Harry Potter books/movies filling your shelves.
  14. 14
Make magic-related book covers for your books. For example, "A Brief History of Magic", "Hogwarts: A History", and stuff like that.

Community Q&A

  • Question
I have so many things that don't have to do with Harry Potter (Tinker Bell boxes, etc). What do I do with the things that can't be put away?

You can leave them out! Perhaps you're a Muggle-born who just happens to love Tinker Bell? Hogwarts dorms are decorated the way the student wants, and you should show your personality! As a Muggle, decorating your room like a Hogwarts dormitory can be so cool, but if you were a witch/wizard, it would just be boring! Don't be afraid to display what you love!

You should put in your robes, books, broomstick (optional), cauldron, dress robes, wand, and any other items you wish to have.

That's totally fine. It is not needed! Cute, plush, toy owls can be a substitute, and look just as nice.
