Leveling up Pokémon can be hard. Read this guide to help you level your Pokémon up in Pokémon Black and White!

Method 1
Method 1 of 2:

  1. 1
Battle Wild Pokémon or trainers around your Pokémon's level or higher. Audino is a good Wild Pokémon to battle, since it's a commonly-found Pokémon that gives a lot of experience. You can find one in shaking grass.
  2. 2
Give your Pokémon a Lucky Egg, which you receive from Professor Juniper at Chargestone Cave.

  3. 3
Give two other Pokémon Exp. Share. You can find Exp. Share in Castelia City and in Icirrus City.
  4. 4
Try to get the Pokérus. Pokérus is a Pokémon virus, which causes your Pokémon to grow better. There is no guaranteed way to get it, but you can catch it from wild Pokémon on special occasions.
  5. 5
Try trading your Pokémon to a friend, then get them to trade back. This will cause the Pokémon to level up faster.

Method 2
Method 2 of 2:

Rustling Grass

This can be a fast way to level up.

  1. 1
After you get the first badge, you have access to rustling grass. Most times it will be Audino but on small occasions there will be others.
  2. 2
Fight these special Pokémon. This will give you more experience than the other Pokémon you run into in the tall grass.
  3. 3
Keep trying. Rustling grass will come up every once in a while. The best thing to do is walk/run next to grass, but not in it, until the grass moves.

Community Q&A

  • Question
I battled in Pokemon Black, but my Pokemon don't get experience points. What's wrong?

This means that you're playing a pirated copy of the game, in which Pokemon don't level up because of the game's copy protection. They'll level up if you get a store-bought copy of the game.
  • Question
Why does my Pokemon only get a small amount of XP when I fight Audino, even with the lucky egg?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Your Pokemon may be one that has a slow XP gain (i.e Metang or Braviary). Or, your Pokemon could be at such a high level that XP gain is lowered.
  • Question
Is the Pokérus contagious to other Pokémon?
    Community Answer

Warnings

  • Pokerus only lasts 24 hours, but to keep it, you can put one Pokémon with Pokerus in your PC box.

  • To make other Pokémon in your party get Pokerus, you can do double battles, or start off with one Pokémon (that has Pokerus) and switch to another in the middle of a battle.
