Invert the bottle and cut three flippers of cardboard. This is necessary to hold the rocket at launch time. Make your best design.

Why do I need to fill it with water? Can't I just use air?

Water is heavier than air. This makes water a denser and heavier exhaust, thus allowing the rocket to go higher.

The gap isn't 100% airtight, so air is leaking out of it. So you need to pump it quickly so that the pressure can build up.

To hold the water in bottle as well as to be able to inject the bike pump to get air into the bottle, creating pressure for the launch.
