How to Turn Off Google Ads

While you can't turn off or stop getting most ads online, you can block them. This wikiHow will show you how to turn off Google ads in your web browser.

Things You Should Know

In Chrome, go to ⋮ > Settings > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects and select ""Don't allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirect".
On an Android, open Chrome and go to ⋮ > Settings > Permissions/Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects. Switch off "Pop-ups and redirects"

On an iPhone, open Chrome and go to … > Settings Content Settings > Pop-ups and redirects. Switch off "Pop-ups and redirects

Turn off personalized ads by going to your google account. Click Privacy & personalization > Go to ad settings. Turn the switch off

Preventing Pop-ups on Your Computer Using Chrome

Open Chrome. This app icon looks like a red, yellow, and green orb surrounding a blue circle that you can find in your Start menu (on Windows) or in your Application folder (on Mac).

Click ⋮. You'll see this three-dot menu icon in the top right corner of the web browser.

Click Settings. It's near the bottom of the menu and will open Chrome's settings in a new tab.

Click Site Settings. This is under the header, "Privacy and Security" and is next to a filter icon.

Click Pop-ups and redirects. It's near the bottom of the page under the header, "Content."

Click to select the circle next to "Don't allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirect" to fill it. A filled circle means that it is selected.

Tap ⋮ (Android) or … (iOS). You'll see this three-dot menu icon in the top right corner of the web browser.

Tap Settings. It's near the bottom of the menu next to a gear icon.

Tap Permissions/Site Settings (Android) or Content Settings (iOS). The menu's words depend on your phone or tablet's manufacturer, but you should find this under the "Advanced" header.

Tap Pop-ups and redirects. It's near the middle of a menu next to a pop-out icon.

Tap the toggle next to "Pop-ups and redirects" to turn it off. A grey or white switch indicates that these elements are disabled in Chrome and that you won't get pop-ups or redirects.

Turning off Personalized Ads

Go to https://myaccount.google.com/ and log in (if prompted). You'll need to log in to your Google account to be able to turn off personalized ads.

Click the Privacy & personalization tile. It's pictured with a default account avatar and a paintbrush.

Click Go to ad settings. You'll find this at the bottom of the "Ad settings" tile.

Click the switch to turn it off
. A grey switch indicates that ad personalization is off and your ads will no longer be based on your Google activity (like what you've watched on YouTube or searched in Google).

Click Turn Off and Got it to confirm. Once you confirm that you want to turn off ad personalization, your ads will no longer be tailored for you based on your Google activity.^{[2]

- Turning off personalized Google ads does not mean you are turning off ads. You can install an extension for your web browser (like uBlock Origin) that will block ads and prevent you from seeing them.
