Turkish

Etymology

From Old Turkic 𐱅𐰇𐰼𐰜 (t²ür²k̥ /türük/), from *𐱅𐰇𐰼𐰃 (*t²ür²i /türi/, root, ancestry, race) + suffix 𐰜- (k̥- /-ük/), from Proto-Turkic *türi- (lineage, ancestry). Also compare Chinese 突厥 (Tūjué, Tújué, Turk) and Chinese 鐵勒 (Tiělè, Tiele people), who may have been mistaken for Huns.
