A trumpeter's wart is a small thick hardened bump on a trumpet player's upper lip.[1] It is not a wart.[2] Trombone player's may develop a similar bump on their lower lip.[1]
It is caused by repeated friction between the instrument and the lip.[2] Diagnosis is based on appearance.[2] Taking a biopsy may be harmful as it may affect the musician's ability to play.[2]
