Are you having trouble catching Giratina in Pokémon Platinum? Are you ready to just throw your Master Ball at it? Well, don't do that, there are far better things to use it on, like on Cresselia or Mesprit. The only time you should use the Master Ball on Giratina is if it is shiny. Read on to find out how to make Giratina easier to catch.

Steps

  1. 1
SAVE BEFORE YOU FIGHT GIRATINA! Because if you faint it, you might even have to start in the distortion world all over again.
  2. 2
Use Dusk Balls at first. Dusk Balls work the best and are probably the way you will catch Giratina if you don't use Ultra Balls. Note that Dusk Balls work only as well as regular Poké Balls when it isn't nighttime.

  3. 3
Use Timer Balls after a great deal of turns (after the Dusk Balls). Timer Balls work extremely well if you are in battle with Giratina for an extensive period of time. After 20 turns, Timer Balls match Ultra Balls; after 30, they match Dusk Balls at night; after 40, they beat Dusk Balls.
  4. 4
Use high level Pokemons that are a level 70 or higher. Have A) a Pokémon that can withstand Dragon and Rock attacks (i.e. Bronzong, Lucario, Steelix) and B) a normal type (i.e. Snorlax, Clefable) to render Giratina's Ghost Type moves--Ominous Wind and Shadow Force--useless.
  5. 5
Weaken it to red health and then use a sleep-inducing move like Sleep Powder, and start chucking Poké Balls. In a pinch, paralysis works too, but bear in mind that it is half as effective as sleep and freezing are at facilitating the catch.
