Melons are a very useful crop in Minecraft.. They are easy to farm, and you can not only eat them but also use them to brew healing potions or trade with farmer villagers to get emeralds. However, melons and their seeds can be difficult to find. Melons naturally generate in certain village types, woodland mansions, and in rare jungle biomes, and their seeds can be found in dungeons and mineshafts, which are often dangerous. It is well worth the risk though for the many uses melon slices have.

Exploring Abandoned Mineshafts

Explore caves, ravines, or badlands biomes. Mineshafts can generate in any Overworld biome underground, and are usually found by exploring ravines and caves^{[1]

- Make sure you are well prepared, as mineshafts and caves can be dangerous if you're not on Peaceful mode. Bring plenty of torches, food, and pickaxes. Bring a weapon and armor too, as well as extra materials like wood, iron, and coal in case you need to craft more of something.

Explore until you see minecart rails, wood and fence posts, or torches that you didn’t place. You may also want to listen for an abundance of spider sounds, as they may signal a nearby cave spider spawner, which only generate in mineshafts.

Wander through the mineshaft until you find a minecart chest.

Loot the chest. Each chest will have different loot items in it, and there may not always be melon seeds in every chest. If there are melons seeds, take those and any other loot you want from it. If there are no melon seeds in a chest, take whatever loot you do want and look for another chest.

Finding Melons in Jungles

Find a jungle biome. Jungle biomes are somewhat rare, so you may have to explore for a while before finding one. Pick a direction and just start walking. They can be identified by their tall 2x2 block trees and the lush green color of the leaves and grass.
- If you are having trouble finding a jungle and have cheats enabled on your world, you can use commands to find one. Open chat and type /locatebiome jungle then enter it. This should bring up the coordinates to the nearest jungle, which you can then teleport or walk to.

Look for melon blocks. Melons can naturally generate in jungle biomes and variants. Look around the jungle until you find a stripey green block with a stem on top.

Finding Melons in Woodland Mansions

- If you have cheats enabled on your world, you can use commands to find a woodland mansion. Open chat and type /locate mansion in chat and enter it. This will give you the coordinates of the nearest woodland mansion, which you can then teleport or walk to.
- Woodland mansions are very dangerous. They contain many hostile mobs like pillagers, vindicators, vexes, and regular ones. Bring plenty of food, good armor and weapons, torches, and even healing or strength potions if you have them.

Locate a dual staged farm room. This is a farm room with 2 levels, the bottom has fully grown pumpkins and pumpkin stems, and the top has fully grown melons and melon stems^{[7]

- Not all woodland mansions are guaranteed to have this room. If the one you found does not contain melons, try to locate another one or use another method.

Place torches on and around the spawner. Placing torches on and nearby the monster spawner in the dungeon will prevent mobs from spawning. You could also break the spawner using a pickaxe, but this will completely destroy it.

Growing Your Own
