How to Make Corn Starch Baking Soda Modeling Clay

You can make this modeling clay with three equal parts of water, corn starch and baking soda in about 20 minutes. This easy to make modeling clay results in a very smooth white clay that can be sculpted, rolled and cut with cookie cutters. This clay can air dry or be placed in an oven that had been warmed and shut off. After it's dry, your creation can be painted or left in its natural color.

Gather the Ingredients and Materials·
- Before you start, gather a one-cup measuring cup, medium sized saucepan, a mixing spoon, air tight container, water, corn starch and baking soda.

Measure one cup of corn starch.

Pour corn starch directly into saucepan.

Measure one cup of baking soda.

Pour baking soda into the saucepan with the corn starch.

Measure one cup of water.

Pour water into the saucepan with the first two ingredients.

Stir the three ingredients together until smooth.
- The mixture will be stiff and lumpy at first. Keep stirring until all ingredients are combined and smooth.

Place the saucepan with ingredients on the stove over medium heat.
- Warning: Be cautious of the extreme heat of the cooktop. Without care, burns may occur.

Stir constantly until the consistency becomes thick.
- Once the mixture begins to stick together as seen in the picture, remove it from the heat and continue stirring until it can create a ball.

Turn out clay onto a corn starch dusted, hard surface.
- Warning: Mixture will be hot. Allow time to cool before handling clay.

Knead until the clay mixture is extremely smooth and does not stick to the hard surface.

Place the modeling clay into an airtight container.

Store modeling clay in air tight container for up to four weeks.
