It can be hard to tell your mom how much she means to you, especially if you aren’t as close to her as you’d like to be, don't communicate very well with each other, or if you don't have much time to spend with her. Remember that you don’t have to do anything expensive or dramatic to show your mom you love her – just be honest and authentic. Your mom will appreciate any effort you put in to make her feel loved.

Method 1
Method 1 of 5:

Writing a Card or Letter

  1. 1
Create stationery or a card. Creating it yourself will show her you took some time to say "I love you."
    • Make a heart card. Fold a red or pink piece of paper in half. Cut half a heart in it. Start by making a curve at the top, and come down to a point. Write on it like a normal card, but when she opens it, it will be a heart.
    • Use watercolors to create a pretty background for stationery. Make sure to let it dry before writing on it.
    • Start with a plain piece of construction paper in her favorite color. Make a heart to go in the middle.
  2. 2
Write how you love her. Include a special message to show her you care.
    • You could write something like "I am so thankful you're my mom. You mean so much to me, and I appreciate all you do. Thank you for being there for me. Love you!"
    • Try writing "I Love You" in other languages. Fill up the front of the card with the phrase in other languages. You can use an internet translator or simply visit a page that translates the phrase. Start with "Jeg elsker dig" from Danish, "Ik hou van je" from Dutch, "Je t'aime" from French, "Ich liebe dich" from German, "Te amo" from Spanish, or "chăn rák kun" from Thai.[1]
    • Include a poem, by you or someone else. You can write your mom a special poem, but if you don't want to do that, you can use someone else's words and give them the credit.
    • List specific things your mom's done. Thank your mom for specific things, and tell her what you love about her. You can even turn it into an alphabet adventure. Write out something you love or appreciate for every letter of the alphabet. You can simplify it a bit and use her name for the first letters instead.

  3. 3
Decorate your card. Add embellishments to make it special.
    • Add pressed flowers. You can pick wildflowers, then put them between pages of a book to dry. If you're worried about marking up the book, fold the flowers in a piece of paper first. Glue them to the card in a pretty arrangement.[2]
    • Gather scraps of paper and pretty things. Add them to the card as embellishment.[3]
    • Add sewing touches. Use thread to sew in outlines on the paper you use, or use it to write out the message on the front of the card.
  4. 4
Leave it for her to find. Wrap it in a piece of paper with her name on it, and leave it for her to find.

Method 2
Method 2 of 5:

Showing Affection

  1. 1
Give your mom hugs and kisses. Offer her affection without being asked.
  2. 2
Rub her shoulders. If she looks like she's had a hard day, give her a shoulder rub, which will show her you care.
  3. 3
Offer her smiles. Even if you're having a hard day, try to smile at her instead of being grumpy. She'll appreciate your good attitude.[4]
  4. 4
Don't brush off her kisses and hugs in public. You may be embarrassed to be hugged by your mom, but you don't want to hurt her feelings.
  5. 5
Be forgiving. Your mom makes mistakes, too. If she forgets to pick you up or make your favorite lunch, tell her it's ok instead of getting mad.[5]
  6. 6
Share your life. Your mom wants to know what's going on with you, and by telling her about your feelings and your day, you're letting her in.[6]
  7. 7
Encourage her, and listen to her. Your mom has bad days, and she has things she loves to do, as well. Be there for her when she needs it, and encourage her hobbies.[7] [8]
  8. 8
Say "Thank you." Sometimes, your mom might feel a little underappreciated. Notice the things she does for you, and tell her you appreciate them.[10]

Method 3
Method 3 of 5:

Doing Nice Things for Her

  1. 1
Cook dinner for your mom. You don't have to cook something elaborate. She'll love whatever you make.[11]
    • For a simple meal, try making spaghetti. Cook the pasta, and heat the jar of sauce on the stove. Add a salad on the side for a simple meal.
  2. 2
Make her favorite dessert. Hot, fresh cookies are a sure way to say "I love you", but an unconventional dessert. Try a trifle, mousse, rice-pudding or whatever her favorite is.
  3. 3
Ask her what she wants to do for a day, and then make it happen. Make sure to put your phone down, and pay attention to her while you're doing the activity she wants.
    • Offer her suggestions if she can't come up with anything. Maybe you could go to the library, a movie, or the spa. Maybe you could have a picnic in the park.
  4. 4
Clean her car. Take it to the car wash, or wash it yourself. Don't forget to dig out the trash from the inside and vacuum it. Also, take the time to wipe down the dashboards and other surfaces.
  5. 5
Clean the house. Nothing says "I love you" to a mother like a clean house.
  6. 6
Bring her a cup of coffee or tea. If your mom's sitting down for a breather, bring her a glass or mug of something she loves to help her relax.
  7. 7
Offer to babysit for a younger sibling. You can give your mom a break, which she'll love, and she can go do something fun.

Method 4
Method 4 of 5:

Spelling It Out

  1. 1
Write out "I love you" on the (clean) table using either her favorite cookies or candy. Be sure to keep any pets away, and warn other members of the family to leave it alone. You might also leave a note with it to tell your mom it's for her.
    • You can also use tealight candles if you're careful.
  2. 2
Leave sticky notes around the house. Write "I Love You," "XOXO," or some other sweet note on them. You can also write it on plain paper to leave it in places she'll find it, like the flour bin or in her make-up case.
  3. 3
Write "I love you" out on your mom's car windows in shoe polish. Just be sure not to get polish on the paint. Also, make sure to leave her room to see where she's going.
  4. 4
Make your own fortune cookies, and fill them with fortunes that say nice things about your mom. You can also buy pre-made ones, remove the fortune with tweezers, and stick yours back in.

Method 5 of 5:

Giving a Gift

  1. 1
Find "love" jewelry. You can find necklaces, bracelets, and earrings that spell out "love" and will let your mom know you love her.[12]
    • You can also make your own with lettered beads, or you can use wire to write it.
  2. 2
Make a playlist for her. Try looking through your music to find songs you think she'll love. Include some classics and some contemporary music, too. Add it to her phone or MP3 player, or burn it to a CD if she's old fashioned.
  3. 3
Buy her favorite candy. It shows you pay attention and will give her a pick-me-up.
  4. 4
Make her a scarf or a hat. You can knit or crochet one.
    • If you can't knit or crochet, try a fleece scarf. Simply cut it in the shape you want. Cut strips on the end for fringe, tying knots in each piece. Sew a heart on it to show her you care (or glue one on with fabric glue).

    Community Answer
    Community Answer
A couple of ways you can keep your mom happy is by letting her date (don't be negative when she is moving on). Appreciate all of her hard work. If she is a single mom, she must have a lot of stress from cooking, cleaning, working etc. So you need to pick up some of the chores and help.

Warnings

Article SummaryX

It’s easy to assume your mom knows you love her, but telling her in different ways can make her feel special and appreciated. Write her a card, which you can draw yourself, buy from a store, or print out using a picture of you together. Inside, write a cute message telling her why you’re grateful to have her as your mom and that you love her. Alternatively, leave her a sticky note telling her you love her. If you have a little extra time, show her you love her by cooking dinner one night or tidying the house so she can relax and put her feet up. If you don’t have time to make a big gesture, just give her a big hug or a kiss and tell her you love her. Or, make her a cup of coffee or tea when she's tired.
