Etymology

From Middle Chinese 舍利子 (MC ɕiaX|ɕiaH liɪH t͡sɨX), attested in Xuanzang's translation of the Prajñāpāramitāhṛdaya Sutra.

Literally "Śāri's son", or erroneously, "Master Śāri".
