kot
Albanian
Etymology 1
Theoretically from Proto-Albanian *kākta, of uncertain origin; potentially akin to Lithuanian koktùs (“disgusting”) via Proto-Indo-European [Term?]. An older hypothesis connects it to Ancient Greek κότος (kótos, “rancor, grudge”).[1]
Etymology 2
From Proto-Albanian *kāta, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kHtos (“shade, shadow, darkness”). Compare Old Irish scáth (“shadow”), Ancient Greek σκότος (skótos, “darkness”), Sanskrit छत्त्र (chattra, “umbrella”), English shadow.[2]
