Have you ever worked really hard on some great build, or finally completed your secret treasure hoard only to have someone come by and destroy it all or otherwise grief you? Read on to learn how to deal with them.

Steps

  1. 1
Contact the admin/mod/op/owner of the server and tell them you have been griefed. Most servers do not allow people to report griefing after a certain time.
  2. 2
Watch and wait. Another option is to watch your house, wait for the griefer, and either see their username, or take a screenshot of them griefing you.

Method 1 of 1:

Preventing Griefing

  1. 1
Prevent griefing before it happens. We all hate being griefed, it sucks right? So why not work on preventing it?
  2. 2
Don't leave anything important out in the open. If you say leave a chest full of important stuff out in the open, the more like someone is to steal all of it, and to destroy your home.
  3. 3
Leave a few traps around. This one is pretty self explanatory.
    • Make sure friendly people know where these traps are though, no sense in slaughtering a friend.
  4. 4
Actively kill griefers. If they know there is good chance they will die, they are a lot less likely to try it.
  5. 5
Be prepared. Above all though, know that from time to time someone is going to grief you, so have a secret backup supply stash ready, and move on. Make sure this secret stash is thousands of blocks away from spawn and use a x-ray proof design. It should get you back on your feet especially if there are no admins, mods, or owners around.
  6. 6
Make use of Bukkit. There are plenty of anti-griefing Bukkit plugins out there ranging from region-protection to block logging. Check them out!

People can't force you to do anything you don't want to do. If they try to make you grief, disconnect from the server and come back later.
  • Question
What do I do if I am a Tmod and there is a griefer?

If grief is allowed on there server, then there is not much you can do but guard your place up with traps and hide your stuff well. It it's not allowed, then get a hold of the the GM of the server or someone who can ban the griefer. Take a screenshot of what happened or, if you can catch the person in the act, take a picture of the person doing so.
  • Question
How do I know if I've been griefed?

The most obvious proof is: your house was destroyed. But in some case the griefer would only damage and steal your things piece by piece. Why? Because "the longer you wait, the bigger the reward."

Warnings

  • Remember their names, they could be part of a large Griefing Network and there is a chance you could meet again on another server. If you do, alert players of them, and they'll have no fun and leave. Remember, most professional griefers have alternate accounts to hide themselves.
