Did Facebook disable your personal account for no reason? As long as you didn't violate Facebook's community policies, you can easily submit an appeal to recover your disabled account. Once you provide your name, proof of identity, and an explanation through the form, Facebook will decide whether they'll restore your account. We'll show you how to ask Facebook to review and reactivate your account, and how you can restore an account that you deactivated yourself.
Steps
If Facebook Disabled Your Account
-
1Make sure Facebook disabled your account. Go to https://www.facebook.com and log in with your username and password. If you see a message that says "Your account has been disabled," you can send an appeal to have it recovered.
- Facebook may disable your account if you've used it in a way that violates their terms and standards. This includes using a fake name, impersonating someone, sending spam messages, and harassing other users.[1] Check out Facebook's terms at https://www.facebook.com/terms, and their community standards at https://transparency.fb.com/policies/community-standards.
- If your Facebook account was hacked and you're not able to log in, visit https://www.facebook.com/hacked instead.
-
2Go to https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/260749603972907. This is Facebook's official appeal form for disabled personal accounts. If you believe your account was disabled in error, you can use this form to ask that they investigate the issue.Advertisement
-
3Enter your email address or phone number. Use the email address or phone number associated with the account that Facebook deactivated.
- You will need to have access to this account or phone number, as Facebook will use it to communicate with you.
-
4Enter your full name. The name you type into the "Your full name" field should match the name that's listed on your Facebook account.
- If Facebook canceled your account because you weren't using your real name, you'll have a chance to explain your situation in a moment.
-
5Upload a picture of your ID. This can be a driver's license, birth certificate, learner's permit, immigration card, tribal identification or status card, official name change paperwork, passport, or other government ID.[2] To do so:
- Take a picture of your ID. If the document is not blank on one side, take photos of both the front and the back.
- Transfer the photo(s) to your computer.
- Click Choose Files.
- Select the pictures to upload.
- Click Open.
-
6Explain your situation. In "Additional info" field near the bottom of the page, enter any extra information that you think Facebook should know. Be polite, and make sure Facebook understands that you plan to correct or change the offending behavior.
- If your legal name is different than your Facebook name, tell Facebook why. For example, if you're in the process of a name change, make that clear.
- If someone other than you used your account to violate Facebook's policies, explain the situation thoroughly. Consider uploading a screenshot with proof to a free site like Imgur, and then include a link to the screenshot in your message.
- If you did violate Facebook's standards but want another chance on the platform, it never hurts to apologize.
-
7Click Send. It's in the bottom-right side of the form. This sends your appeal to Facebook for review. If they decide to revoke the deactivation, they will send you a message letting you know when your account is available.
-
8Upload more information if requested by Facebook. If Facebook needs more information to make their final decision on your account, they'll let you know via email or text message. You'll have 30 days from the time you receive the email from Facebook to provide the requested documentation.[3] If you miss the 30-day deadline, your account will be permanently disabled.
If You Disabled Your Own Account
-
1Go to https://www.facebook.com. This opens the Facebook home page.
- If you temporarily deactivated your account, you can recover it by simply signing back in.[4] But if you chose the option to permanently delete your account, you'll only have a 30-day window during which you can reactivate your account.
- If it's been more than 30 days since you marked your account for permanent deletion, you can't get it back. Create a new Facebook account instead.
-
2Enter your email address or phone number. Use the email address or phone number associated with the account you deactivated.
-
3Enter your Facebook password. Type the password you used to log into Facebook into the "Password" text box to the right of where you typed in your email address or phone number.
- If you don't remember your password, click Forgot Password? and follow the on-screen instructions to reset it.
-
4Click Log In. If your password is accepted and your account was temporarily deactivated, this reactivates your account.
-
5Click Cancel Deletion if prompted. If you deleted your account and it's been fewer than 30 days since doing so, this reactivates your account.
- You can temporarily deactivate your Facebook account now if you still want to take a break from Facebook.

About This Article
Facebook often disables accounts for using fake names, spamming, using hate speech, threatening other users, or otherwise violating their terms of use. If you can't sign in to Facebook because they've disabled your account, you can request an investigation using Facebook's official investigation form (https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/logout?id=260749603972907). Enter the email address or phone number associated with your account, and then the full name you used on Facebook. Next, upload a scan or photo of a government-issued ID, such as a passport or state ID card. In the "Additional info" area, describe the incident and explain why Facebook should restore your account. Click Send to send your appeal to Facebook. Within a day or two, Facebook will send you an email message informing you of their decision.
