Etymology
From Middle Chinese 菩提薩埵 (MC buo dei sɑt̚ tuɑX), itself a transliteration of Sanskrit बोधिसत्त्व (bodhisattva, “enlightened existence”).
Equivalent to 菩提 (bodai, “bodhi, enlightenment”) + 薩埵 (satta, “being”).
