How to Know if Someone Read Your Direct Message on Instagram

Instagram Direct allows you to send Direct Messages (DM) to both your followers and non-followers. This wikiHow teaches you how to know if someone has read your direct message on Instagram or not. You can also find out how many people in a group have read your message.

Sending a DM to Your Followers

Open the Instagram app. Click on the app’s icon to open it.

Log into your account. If it doesn’t sign you in already, sign in using your login details.

Click on the paper plane Icon. At the top right-hand corner, click on the icon that resembles a paper plane. It will take you to Instagram Direct.

Click on the follower you want to send a DM. From the list of your Instagram connections, select the follower you want to message.

Write your message. Type the message you want to send to the follower in the text box. Beyond text, you can also send images and more. Click on the options button close to the text box to send more than text.

Press the send button.

Visit the follower profile. Search for the non-follower and navigate to their profile.

Select the message option. You will find it in the middle of their profile page.

Write your message. A text box will appear. Type your message.

Sending a Message to a Group

Tap on the paper plane icon. It is at the top right side of your feed, the page that shows when you open the app.

Click on the pencil and paper icon. It is at the top right side of the Instagram Direct page to create a new message.

Add people. Select the people you want to send the message to. This will make the conversation a group chat.

Click on chat. Write down your message. You can opt to add pictures and videos by clicking on their icons close to the Send button.

Click Send. Instantly your message gets delivered to the recipients.

Knowing If Someone Has Read Your Message

Navigate to Instagram Direct, if you sent a direct message. You will find the paper plane icon at the top right-hand side of your feed.

Tap on the message. Under the message you want to check its read receipt; if it shows “Seen”, the individual has read the message.

Click on the group, if you sent a group message. Navigate to the message you want to check. The usernames of members who have read the message will appear next to ‘Seen’.

Warnings

You cannot see the read receipts of private account users who have not accepted your follow request. If the user declines your request, you also do not get any feedback.
