This article will show you how to set up a lathe.
Steps
-
1Gather all the material and tools for the setup.[1]
-
2Slide the live center in the headstock, and the dead center in the tail stock.Advertisement
-
3Put a guide bar in between the two centers.
-
4Put the dial indicator on the stand.
-
5Put the stand on the carriage.
-
6Apply pressure towards the bar with the dial indicator.
-
7Once applied pressure, move the carriage along the bar. The gauge should not move, and if it didn't move, it is balanced.
-
8Slide the chuck on the head and turn the screw clockwise on the head until it's tight.
-
9Turn the chuck by hand to check that all fasteners are tight.[2]
-
10Put the tool bit on the tool post.
-
11Align the tool with the dead center.[3]
-
12Put the material in the chuck.
-
13You're done!
