Murree District

Murree District (Urdu, Punjabi: ضِلع مری) is a district in the northernmost part of Punjab province of Pakistan, with it being headquartered in Murree city. It is a relatively new district established on 14 October 2022,[1][2][3] and is a tourist district of Pakistan.[4] It has two tehsils, Kotli Sattian and Murree.[5][6] The district headquarters is Murree city.

Demographics

At the time of the 2017 census, what is today Murree district had 64,319 households and a population of 352,329. Murree had a sex ratio of 959 females per 1000 males and a literacy rate of 86.31% - 93.11% for males and 79.24% for females. 179,444 (50.93%) lived in urban areas. 80,259 (22.78%) were under 10 years of age. 548 (0.16%) were from religious minorities.[8]

At the time of the 2017 census, 90.84% of the population spoke Punjabi, 3.12% Urdu, 2.05% Pashto and 1.87% Hindko as their first language. 1.08% of the population spoke a language classified as 'Other'. The dialect of this region is Pahari.
