This wikiHow teaches you how to create a line break when hitting enter in Facebook Messenger instead of sending the message. This is only necessary when using the Facebook website, since the Enter/Return keys are separate from the Send button on the mobile app.
Steps
-
1Navigate to Facebook in your web browser. Enter your username and password and click Log in.
-
2Click Messenger. This is in the left panel under your profile picture.Advertisement
-
3Click a conversation.
-
4Enter text into the message field.
-
5Hold ⇧ Shift and press ↵ Enter. The typing cursor will move to the next line without sending the message.
- This also works for the chat windows on the main Facebook page.
- Although it was once supported, you can no longer change the default action for hitting enter when sending messages.
- When using the Messenger mobile app, the Enter or Return key will automatically start a new line without sending the message, because there is a separate Send button.
