อสรพิษ

Borrowed from Sanskrit आशीर्विष (āśīrviṣa, “poisonous snake”, literally “one with poison in fangs; one with poisonous fangs”); probably via Khmer អាសិរ្ពិស (ʾaasepɨh, “poisonous snake”). Compare Pali āsivisa (“serpent”).

อสรพิษ • (à-sɔ̌ɔ-rá-pít)

1. (elegant) snake.
   • 1785, เจ้าพระยาพระคลัง (หน), ราชาธิราช, ตอน ๑:

     พอหญิงมีครรภ์คนหนึ่งเดินมาริมหลุม คนทั้งปวงพร้อมกันว่า ได้ฤกษ์แล้ว ก็ผลักหญิงนั้นลงในหลุม จึงยกเสาปราสาทนั้นลงหลุม โลหิตสตรีนั้นกระเด็นขึ้นมาเป็นอสรพิษแปดตัว อสรพิษเจ็ดตัวนั้นตายในสถานที่นั้น แต่ตัวหนึ่งนั้นเลื้อยไปข้างประจิมทิศ แลโหราทำนายว่า เมืองนี้จะบังเกิดกษัตริย์แปดพระองค์ จะทิวงคตในเมืองนี้เจ็ดพระองค์ แต่พระองค์หนึ่งนั้นจะไปทิวงคตฝ่ายประจิมทิศ

     pɔɔ yǐng mii kan kon nʉ̀ng dəən maa rim lǔm kon táng-bpuuang prɔ́ɔm-gan wâa dâai rə̂ək lɛ́ɛo gɔ̂ɔ plàk yǐng nán long nai lǔm jʉng yók sǎo bpraa-sàat nán long lǔm loo-hìt sà-dtrii nán grà-den kʉ̂n maa bpen à-sɔ̌ɔ-rá-pít bpɛ̀ɛt dtuua à-sɔ̌ɔ-rá-pít jèt dtuua nán dtaai nai sà-tǎan-tîi nán dtɛ̀ɛ dtuua nʉ̀ng nán lʉ́ai bpai kâang bprà-jim-tít lɛɛ hǒo-raa tam-naai wâa mʉʉang níi jà bang-gə̀ət gà-sàt bpɛ̀ɛt prá-ong jà tí-wong-kót nai mʉʉang níi jèt prá-ong dtɛ̀ɛ prá-ong nʉ̀ng nán jà bpai tí-wong-kót fàai bprà-jim-tít

     Once a pregnant woman walked by the pit, all the people together uttered: 'The best time has now come!' Then they thrust that woman into the pit and discharged the castle pillar into the same. The blood of that lady sprinkled up into eight serpents. Seven of those serpents died at that very place, but the other one slithered away into the west. And magi delivered a prophecy, saying: 'In this city shall eight kings come to pass. Within the city shall seven of them die. But the other one shall go to the west and there shall he perish.'

     ซึ่งจะมาเกรงใจข้าศึกอยู่นั้นหาควรไม่ อุปมาดังทำใจดีต่อเสือแลอสรพิษ เสือแลอสรพิษหรือจะรู้จักคุณ

     sʉ̂ng jà maa greeng-jai kâa-sʉ̀k yùu nán hǎa kuuan mâi ùp-bpà-maa dang tam jai dii dtɔ̀ɔ sʉ̌ʉa lɛɛ à-sɔ̌ɔ-rá-pít sʉ̌ʉa lɛɛ à-sɔ̌ɔ-rá-pít rʉ̌ʉ jà rúu-jàk kun

     Being considerate towards your enemies is not comely. It is like extending your kindness to tigers and snakes. You think the tigers and snakes will acknowledge your favour?

   • 1785, เจ้าพระยาพระคลัง (หน), ราชาธิราช, ตอน ๑๖:

     ครั้งนี้ พระเจ้าราชาธิราชเปรียบเหมือนอสรพิษหาเขี้ยวแก้วมิได้ ด้วยสมิงพ่อเพ็ชร์แลสมิงนครอินท์ก็ถึงแก่ความตายเสียสิ้นแล้ว อนึ่ง สมิงพระรามแลช้างพลายประกายมาศเล่าเราก็จับตัวมาได้ เห็นกำลังพระเจ้าราชาธิราชจะถอยลง ศึกเราได้ทีอยู่แล้ว ข้าพเจ้าจะขอยกทัพบกทัพเรือตามลงไปเอาเมืองหงษาวดีให้ได้

     kráng-níi prá-jâao raa-chaa-tí-râat bprìiap-mʉ̌ʉan à-sɔ̌ɔ-rá-pít hǎa kîao-gɛ̂ɛo mí-dâai dûai sà-mǐng pɔ̂ɔ pét lɛɛ sà-mǐng ná-kɔɔn-in gɔ̂ɔ tʉ̌ng-gɛ̀ɛ-kwaam-dtaai sǐia sîn lɛ́ɛo à-nʉ̀ng sà-mǐng prá-raam lɛɛ cháang plaai bprà-gaai mâat lâo rao gɔ̂ɔ jàp dtuua maa dâai hěn gam-lang prá-jâao raa-chaa-tí-râat jà tɔ̌i long sʉ̀k rao dâai-tii yùu lɛ́ɛo kâa-pá-jâao jà kɔ̌ɔ yók táp-bòk táp-rʉʉa dtaam long bpai ao mʉʉang hǒng-sǎa-wá-dii hâi dâai

     This time, King Rachathirat is on a par with a serpent without fangs, for Saming Pho Phet and Saming Nakhon In have both perished, whilst Saming Phra Ram and Phlai Prakai Mat the Elephant have been caught by us. I think the strength of King Rachathirat is diminishing. As we are gaining the upper hand in the warfare, I should like to lead our land forces and naval fleets down to pursue them them and capture the town of Hongsawadi to the best of my ability!

     เกียงจูแหยจึงซักถามนางขันกีต่อหน้าขุนนางทั้งปวงว่า ตัวเป็นปีศาจแกล้งแปลงเพศมาทั้งสามคน คบคิดกันกระทำให้เมืองจิวโก๋เกิดจลาจล ยุยงให้พระเจ้าติวอ๋องทำเสาทองแดงใส่ถ่านเพลิง แล้วให้ขุดสระใส่อสรพิษ คนซึ่งมีสัตย์ซื่อต่อแผ่นดินแลคนผู้หาความผิดมิได้ก็เอามานาบด้วยเสาทองแดง ผลักให้ตกลงไปในสระอสรพิษกัดล้มตายเสียเป็นอันมาก ทั้งยุให้พระเจ้าติวอ๋องทำพระที่นั่งหลกไต๋ ราษฎรชาวเมืองทั้งปวงได้ความลำบากเสียเงินทองเป็นอันมาก ซึ่งตัวกระทำให้ได้ความเดือดร้อนกับแผ่นดินทั้งนี้ ตัวจะปรารถนาสิ่งใด

     So Jiang Ziya questioned Lady Daji in the presence of all the nobles, saying: 'You three are demons in disguise. You all conspired to expose the City of Zhaoge to turmoil. You instigated King Zhou to create a bronze toaster containing burning charcoal and dig up a pool filled with snakes. A great many people who were loyal to the land and were of no guilt had been seared with the bronze toaster and thrown into the pool to be bitten and slain by the snakes. You even encouraged King Zhou to raise a Deer Terrace Hall, thus subjecting all the private citizens of our nation to difficulties and losses of money. As you committed all these things to bring about trouble to our realm, what have you been wishing for?'

   • ตั้งฮั่น, ตอน ๑:

     ซึ่งท่านจะประมาทดูหมิ่นเชื้อพระวงศ์กษัตริย์เหมือนเอาอสรพิษมาเลี้ยงไว้ไม่ต้องอย่างธรรมเนียม ขอท่านจงเอาตัวจูเอ๋งไปฆ่าเสียแต่ยังเยาว์อยู่ฉะนี้ ราชสมบัติในเมืองหลวงจึงเป็นสิทธิ์ขาดอยู่แก่ท่าน อองมังจึงว่า ท่านว่าจูเอ๋งเป็นเชื้อพระวงศ์กษัตริย์เหมือนอสรพิษมิให้คิดประมาทนั้นชอบ แต่จะฆ่าจูเอ๋งเป็นทารกอายุไม่ถึงสิบขวบนั้นจะมีคำนินทา

     sʉ̂ng tân jà bprà-màat duu-mìn chʉ́ʉa-prá-wong gà-sàt mʉ̌ʉan ao à-sɔ̌ɔ-rá-pít maa líiang wái mâi dtɔ̂ng yàang tam-niiam kɔ̌ɔ tân jong ao dtuua juu-ěeng bpai kâa sǐia dtɛ̀ɛ yang yao yùu chà-níi râat-chá-sǒm-bàt nai mʉʉang-lǔuang jʉng bpen sìt-kàat yùu gɛ̀ɛ tân ɔɔng-mang jʉng wâa tân wâa juu-ěeng bpen chʉ́ʉa-prá-wong gà-sàt mʉ̌ʉan à-sɔ̌ɔ-rá-pít mí-hâi kít bprà-màat nán chɔ̂ɔp dtɛ̀ɛ jà kâa juu-ěeng bpen taa-rók aa-yú mâi tʉ̌ng sìp kùuap nán jà mii kam-nin-taa

     'As you are careless and neglect about this royal descendant of a monarch, it is on a par with raising a serpent, thus breaching the custom and tradition. I beg you to put Liu Ying to death whilst he is still young, so that the royal throne in the capital city would absolutely remain in your grasp.' Wang Mang then said: 'Right is your word that Liu Ying the royal descendant is like a serpent and should not be looked down upon. But killing Liu Ying, a child who has not even attained the age of ten, will only result in condemnation.'

2. (figuratively) wily, treacherous, or malicious person.
   • พระสุนทรโวหาร (ภู่), นิทานคำกลอน เรื่อง จันทโครบ, ตอน ๒ จันทโครบเปิดผอบ โจรป่าชิงนางโมรา:

     จะโลมเลี้ยงเคียงคู่ประคองชิด เหมือนคบพวกอสรพิษไม่พอพี่ ใจอนงค์มิได้ตรงต่อสามี

     jà loom-líiang kiiang-kûu bprà-kɔɔng chít · mʉ̌ʉan kóp pûuak à-sɔ̌ɔ-rá-pít mâi pɔɔ pîi · jai à-nong mí-dâai dtrong dtɔ̀ɔ sǎa-mii

     Caring for, cohabiting with, and staying close to her is like maintaining friendship with serpents, for the heart of this woman is unfaithful towards her husband.

     ซึ่งจะคบพงศาปัจจามิตร เหมือนอสรพิษไม่เลี้ยงได้ พระองค์ผู้ทรงฤทธิไกร ขับเสียให้ไกลบทมาลย์

     sʉ̂ng jà kóp pong-sǎa bpàt-jaa-mít · mʉ̌ʉan à-sɔ̌ɔ-rá-pít mâi líiang dâai · prá-ong pûu song rít-tí-grai · kàp sǐia hâi glai bòt-tá-maan

     Never shall you mingle with those foemen. They are snakes and ought not to be spared. We beg you, Mighty One, to drive them away from your feet.
