From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *rjaw (“mix”); cognate with Burmese [script needed] (ro, “to mix”), Jingpho yau (“be mixed”), kəjau (“to mix, intermix”), cf. Chepang [script needed] (ljawh-ʔo, “mixed”) and Proto-Mienic *klaau3 (Schuessler, 2007).
