Jerry Norman reconstructs Common Min *tɔi5 based on the coastal Min forms; it is unclear how the Min Bei forms relate to the coastal Min forms. Possibly from (OC *doːns, “section; segment”); compare (OC *toːnʔ, “short”) > Xiamen Hokkien (Coblin, n.d.).
