     It's not the delicate Western pastries she often mentions in articles, nor is it Shanghainese snacks; but it's the plain-old Chinese shortbread, without any character, and it's bought from the Chinatown near by, not high tea palmiers sent from London, nor frozen ice cream transported by air from Shanghai.
