む (rōmaji -mu)
- (Classical Japanese, jodōshi) Used to form the conjectural form of verbs, equivalent to modern う (-u) / よう (-yō).
Usage notes
Conjugation: defective, with the 終止形 (shūshikei, “terminal form”) and the 連体形 (rentaikei, “attributive form”) む (mu), which was also written as ん (n), and the 已然形 (izenkei, “realis form”) め (me). In Old Japanese, the 未然形 (mizenkei, “irrealis form”) ま (ma) is also seen in the -ku nominal form まく (maku).
